Sand Creek Post & Beam Company

Restoration and refurbishing is not always what is needed to give your property a rustic and throwback look to yesteryear. Some of us have visions of what we want and an essentially blank canvas to work with. If this is the case then you must look into developing a plan to make your own little “cathedral in the prairie” from scratch. Luckily there is a great company out there that will help you with your creation.

The Sand Creek Post and Beam Company is a throwback to yesteryear itself with its Post and Beam kits for barns, homes, garden centers and more. Historically throughout the United States pioneers would raise a barn as its primary and focal point on the farm. In some instances barn raisings would be the focal point of the whole town during its construction.

Pioneers in the early day could order a kit from companies such as: Sears, Roebuck and Company, Chicago House and Wrecking, Aladdin and many more; had it arrive to its intended location and construct it. Not too much has changed and Sand Creek Post and Beam is holding true to this tradition. By resurrecting the past with their catalog ordering of barn kits, Sand Creek Post and Beam has harmoniously weaved new interest into a decades old process.

One has to take just a peak at Sand Creek’s website to see a difference in how they operate. It seems as if the whole process is catered to the individual needs of its customers. Jule Goeller CFO and Co- Owner of Sand Creek Post and Beam, says that they strive to make all orders customized to the needs of the customer. This attempt to please every individual customeris apparent in the elegant yet individualized creations that come from Sand Creek. You can see the rustic beauty glowing from the large posts center posts and the wondrous construction that makes each unit its own.

Some owners have put up the barn kit on their property to enhance the nostalgic feel of their acreages. Bryce Veon is one such person. Living in rural Pennsylvania, Bryce decided that he wanted a barn to house his small heard of Scottish Highlanders, Angus, goats, other hobbies and storage for his families things. He turned to Google to search for his dream barn. While searching he came across the Sand Creek Post and Beam company’s website. He fell in love with their designs posted on line. What they had was the idea of what he wanted. A barn that resembled what use to dot the landscapes, however in order to get what he truly wanted he would have to combine two of the websites designs in order to have the room and function of what he needed. He set to work ordering a catalog and thinking of ways to make it work.

Bryce decided the only way to find out if they could combine the two barns to make his ideal barn was to contact the company and ask. He emailed the company and explained to them what he had envisioned. He said, “Working with them was easy. They listened to what I had to say and had their team come up with a design that worked for what I needed.” It took a fewmonths for Bryce and the team at Sand Creek Post and Beam to hash out the final details. Each step of the process, Sand Creek designers consulted with Bryce to ensure that it was what he wanted.

The final product was a majestic 2 story barn gleaming in the sun-drenched field in Pennsylvania. The first floor has approximately 3,000 square feet and the upper level a little less. It was everything that Bryce had envisioned and then some. “It is everything we wanted, and well worth the price. The best thing about the barn is the authentic look and style. The largewood beams and planks really remind you of what use to be all around the land.” It is truly a site to behold.

The whole process took a few months to plan. The production time was approximately 4 months. Then there was the final set up. Sand Creek strives to work with their customers to receive the best results. Initially a customer can go either to the website and choose a barn kit to purchase or contact the company for further design process. The beautiful wood structures are built with the authentic materials that were used on barns that have lasted for hundreds of years. Each barn kit includes: all of the materials required to create a weather-tight structure on your foundation: foundation sill plates; full-dimension Eastern red cedar sills; post and beambarn frame; Ponderosa pine premium siding; roof sheathing; trim, soffit and fascia; exterior door and windows; gable vents; hardware; and fasteners, including our full ¼” steel plate joinery. Each of the barn kits may have other features and components included, depending on style and options the customer has decided upon.

Sand Creek Post and Barn lovingly mills, cuts, assembles the barn in one of their warehouse locations. Then they painstakingly disassemble the barn to ship to the customer. Sand Creek says that, “each Sand Creek Post & Beam barn kit frame is precut, pre-drilled and pre assembled to ensure a perfect fit before disassembling for shipment. In addition, all windows, flower boxes, doors and cupolas are carefully handcrafted at our plant, featuring individually paned glass and traditional designs that provide the finishing touches for eachSand Creek Post & Beam barn kit.”

Then the customer has a choice of either resurrecting the barn themselves or hiring Sand Creek or another affiliate to raise the barn. There are quite a few folks around the nation that order these barns in kits and then rely on the help of neighbors, relatives and sometimes the whole town to assemble these giants together.

It is an amazing sight to behold when these beautiful giant structures are setting up against the vast horizon. As you come across one of these majestic structures the gleaming wood beams that create the frame are awe inspiring, making the barn definitely worthy of the title “Cathedral of the Prairie”.
